Thyroxin

Thyroxin is involved in many body functions including regulation of body temperature, the normal development of the brain.

Hypothyroidism can be caused by lack of iodine, by stress, trauma, glandular fever, chemicals. Symptoms are:

Decreased mental and physical function;
Decreased basal temperature (feeling cold);
Dry skin (including irritation) and thinning hair;
Constipation, weight gain, insomnia;
Insulin resistance i.e. low tolerance to carbohydrates, hypoglycemia;
More severe cases can lead to: infertility, slurred speech, poor heart and kidney function, weakened immune system, anemia, depression, low IQ;


What is Thyroxin?

Hormone produced from thyroxin and iodine in the thyroid. There are two forms T3 and T4 with T3 the more active form.
